Geneva Irene Schafsnitz, age 83, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at her home in Prescott Valley, Ariz., surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug. 31, 1928, in Beallsville, Ohio, to James and Bessie Gallaher.
Geneva attended Ferris State College in Grand Rapids, Mich., and worked as a secretary for Michigan's Bay City Public Schools. She was a member of the Yavapai Classic Cruisers and an active member of the Church of Christ.
Geneva's sense of humor and graceful manner will be remembered by everyone who knew her. Her love of her family is eclipsed only by her love of the Lord.
Geneva is survived by her husband of 61 years, Nick Schafsnitz; her daughters Dawn (Jack) and Niki; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mansel; her son, Jeffrey; her grandson, Nathan; her granddaughter, Katie; and son-in-law, David.
A viewing for Geneva will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Highway 69, Prescott Valley. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon, also at Sunrise Funeral Home.
Her burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery in Dewey following the service. The family suggests that donations in Geneva's name can be made to Katie's Wings, P.O. Box 458, Metamora, MI 48455, or to the local Good Samaritan Society, 3380 N. Windsong Drive, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.
