He moved to Prescott from Chicago in 1990 when he retired. He was an accomplished entrepreneur best known locally as a driving force behind the establishment of the Hassayampa Golf Club. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed living in Prescott, and loved playing golf. In fact, his love of that sport dated to when he was only 8 and became a caddy in Missouri. He was named Golfer of the Year for 1996 at Antelope Hills and was Club Champion of the Hassayampa Golf Club in 2001 and 2004. He often said that he had a great life and would not change a thing. He was born in Chicago in 1929 to John and Goldie Loss and spent his childhood in Neosho, Mo. He proudly served in the Marines from 1946 to 1948, and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1952 with a degree in physical education. He was president of the Chicago Midtown Milk Distributors in Cicero, Ill., and was a member of the Edgewood Valley Country Club in nearby LaGrange. He enjoyed taking his family fishing and sailing at Green Lake, Wis. Because of family connections in Arizona, he purchased Uncle Bob's Popcorn in Tucson in 1986, and owned it until 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne, mother of his sons; his brother James Loss; and his sister Jackie Williams. He is survived by his wife Anna; his sons, Mitchell and Scott; his sister Gwen Stockes; his brother Dennis Loss; and his stepdaughter Karin Candelaria. Mr. Loss exemplified the principles of golf throughout his life. He was honest and fair, loved the outdoors, respected others and was a true gentleman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that individuals donate blood in his name at a local blood bank or donate to a charitable organization. The family will have a memorial service for him at a later date. Information provided by survivors.
