HOOD, Meta Frances

Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Meta Hood (December 18, 1916 ~ May 31, 2012) Meta Frances Hood, 95, longtime resident of Flagstaff passed away May 31, 2012 at the Olivia White Hospice Home. She was born and raised in Morgan County, Missouri December 18, 1916. She earned her teaching certificate from Warrensburg Teaching School as a young girl, and taught in Syracuse, Missouri. In 1937 Meta came to Flagstaff to visit her sister Myrtle and met her husband Ed Hood. They were happily married for 64 years. Meta worked closely with her husband in his contracting business for over 50 years. Meta was the daughter of the late Fred and Henrietta Page and sister of the late Myrtle Thompson. She is survived by her brother Mancel Page (Anna) and daughters Marilyn Gerkey (Bob), of Tucson and Betty Upton (Chuck) of Flagstaff. She had 4 grandchildren Mark Gerkey, Rob Gerkey (Sue), Melissa List (Kenny) and Melinda Upton. 10 great-grandchildren Jay Turner (Heather), William Allgood, Lee Gerkey, Sabrina Haddox (Casey), Elizabeth Gerkey, Matthew List, Tyler List, Chelsea Grissim, Brooke Bohlender and Ariel Bohlender. Meta was a longtime violinist in the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Symphony Guild. She joined the Federated Church in 1937, and a member of the Flagstaff Womens Club. Meta was also an Eastern Star and a founding member of the Friday Afternoon Bridge Club. Meta Loved her family dearly and enjoyed a good party. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 5th at the Norvel Owens Mortuary. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Citizens Cemetery.
