Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, June 5, 2012 - Carol Rae Ketner passed away May 31, 2012 at her residence with her family by her side. Carol was born Feb. 10, 1948, in Granite City, Ill., to Virgil and Dorothea (Stein) Kirksey. Carol married Bob Ketner 44 years ago. In 1971, they moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she was a daycare teacher and mother to Bradley and Kristi. In 1980, they relocated to Huntington Beach, Calif. Carol loved to breed and raise Bichon Frises. One of her dogs, Parker, became a champion. In 1997, Carol and Bob settled in Lake Havasu City, where they loved to travel with their RV group, The Colorado River Ramblers. Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to be with her family and friends. Carol will be missed by all who were blessed to have had her in their lives. Carol is safely home in “God’s Heavenly Garden.” “Sometimes God picks the flower that is still in full bloom. Sometimes the flower is fading with petals floating down, but God knows the perfect time to gather flowers from the ground. There is a Heavenly Garden in which God takes great pleasure because he’s placed within it the loved ones that we treasure. He walks among the blossoms giving them eternal rest, and I know that it must please him because he chose our very best.” by Dorothea Barwick. Carol is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Bradley (Kelly) Ketner, of Orange, Calif.; daughter, Kristi (Matt) Marquardt, of Santee, Calif.; brother, Virgil (Betty) Kirksey Jr., of Glen Ellen, Ill.; sister, Denise (Butch) McGee, of Granite City, Ill.; and her four grandchildren, Madelyn, Alex, Brooke and Athena. Funeral services will be Saturday, at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. with the Funeral Mass following. Father Chauncey Winkler will offer words of comfort. Interment will take place following cremation at a later date in Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carol’s name to your favorite charity.
