MCBRIDE, Ruth Julia

(Maiden Name: Mueller)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, June 06, 2012 Ruth Julia (Mueller) McBride July 2, 1925 ~ May 28, 2012 Ruth was born in Chicago, the eighth of nine children of Anna and Christian Mueller. During her active childhood, Ruthie broke both arms and her nose, which did not stop her from being an enthusiastic player of sports throughout her life. After she could no longer pursue sports, she walked daily and loved to be outdoors on sunny days. In Los Angeles on Dec. 23, 1950, Ruth married William E. McBride Jr., a 30-year-old civil engineer; the couple had four children and divorced in 1970. Afterward Ruth moved to Arizona with her two youngest daughters, settling in Phoenix, where she completed a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University in 1973 and went to work doing mechanical drafting for Honeywell, Motorola and Paramount Design. After retiring in 1987, Ruth traveled abroad several times, visiting Yugoslavia, Greece, Germany and Italy. Ruth enjoyed spending part of each summer in the Pacific Northwest until travel became difficult for her. In 2002, she relocated from Phoenix to the mountain community of Prescott, 90 miles to the north. Ruth loved the open spaces and clear mountain air, and made herself at home in the historic downtown district, in her condominium association, on her sun-filled patio, and on the trails and back roads of the area. After poor health in 2009 forced a move to Washington State for treatment, Ruth returned again to Prescott, but even her independent spirit and indomitable will were not enough to sustain her there for long. In July 2011, Ruth left Prescott for a retirement community in Washington State. She died peacefully, in the company of loving family, on May 28, 2012. Ruth is survived by her eldest brother Walter Mueller; son William S. McBride; daughters Leslie McBride Wile, Julie McBride and Sarah McBride; grandchildren Loren Cohen, Lee Cohen, Erin McBride and Corynn McBride; great-granddaughter Callie Cohen; cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial service is planned at a location and date to be determined by the family. Information provided by survivors.
