Steven Harrington 60, of Lakeside died May 31, 2012. He was born on March 31, 1952 in Augusta, Ga. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Tucson, where he spent his childhood and adolescent years.
Steve moved to Pinetop-Lakeside in 1977 where he resided and contributed to the community that he loved for 35 years.
Steve began working construction at a young age in Tucson and continued his trade upon moving to the White Mountains. After retiring from construction, he began working for Frontier Communications, and loyally served the company for 28 years. His affinity for woodworking and construction continued throughout his life and enabled him to build his own custom home and furniture.
His innate love of nature and the outdoors played a major role in his life. With his adventuresome spirit as his guide, Steve enjoyed rock climbing, cave spelunking, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding, extreme hiking, hunting, off-roading and countless other outdoor activities. He was always willing to lend his knowledge, his expertise and his hand.
He leaves behind a legacy of appreciation for the outdoors and the never-ending quest for the unexplored. Steve always lived life to the fullest. He shared with those who knew him the idea that while the journey to the top may leave us breathless, the view is nothing short of spectacular. The journey that Steven took was spectacular. He was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; beloved dogs: Rojo and Cheyenne; parents: John and Dottie Harrington; sons: Eric and Sean Johnson; brothers: Michael and Jimmy Harrington; a sister, Mary Salcido; daughters of the heart: Kelly Hurlbut, Jill Styke and Carrie Jones; grandsons: Matt, Nick and Josh Jones, Nathan Styke and Ryan Johnson as well as a community of friends that he treasured.
