Edward C. Belt, 84, of Herrin Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home with his family on April 3rd, 2009, in Phoenix.
Born May 2nd, 1924, to Milo and Margaret, he joined the Navy at the age of 17. During his career he served in the South Pacific during WWII onboard the USS Ward, USS Rankin, USS Leyte, and USS American Legion. While a LCVP Higgins Boat driver, he made thirteen landings in the Pacific Theatre. Following WWII, he continued to serve during the Korean War and Vietnam War.
After retiring from the service as a Chief Petty Officer, he joined the Local 469 in Phoenix and continued to work until retirement. Throughout his life he passed on many values to his children such as work ethic, integrity, commitment to service and love of country.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacquelyn, their four children, Jon, Michael, Robin, and Michelle. A viewing will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary on April 7th from 5-8 p.m with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on April 8th.
Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Avenue, Phoenix and will be held with full military honors. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
