Raymond Eugene Kimes, Sr., born on September 22, 1936 in Phoenix, AZ to James Sr. and Hazel (Reddell), passed away in the morning of July 16, 2009. Courageously fighting pulmonary fibrosis for several years, Ray passed at home with his family by his side.
Serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, Ray retired from Allied Signal after thirty-two years.
Preceded in death by his mother, father, and three sisters, Ray is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Shirley; daughter Sherri Hochrine (Ron); son Ray, Jr.; grandsons Bryan and Daniel Kimes; granddaughter Erin Childers (Todd), great grandchildren Autumn and Tristen Childers and Bailey Adair, brother James E. (Butch) and his wife Barbara; brother James A. Jr.; and special friends Calvin and Margaret Alexander. Ray loved his family very much.
His greatest pleasures in life were camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved the outdoors, airplanes and yard sales. The last one year of Ray's life was a real struggle. The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Valley team - Kathy, Chris, Irene, Lori, and Lynette - for helping to make his life easier during the last twelve months.
Also, we would like to thank Susan, who was with him at the end, and our special thanks to the staff at the Surprise Hospice unit.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 21st, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 22nd, from noon - 1:00 p.m. and services will be on Wednesday, July 22nd, at 1:00 p.m. with burial following at 2:00 p.m., all at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley, Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phx, 85014. Ray was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
