Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Sunday, June 17, 2012 >> Erika Abbott-Litt << >> July 4, 1924 — June 12, 2012 << Erika Abbott-Litt was born in Vienna, Austria, July 4, 1924. She was raised in Malba, Long Island, N.Y. and attended Flushing High School. In 1946, Erika married William Abbott and raised four daughters Judith, Terry, Cindy and Bonnie. She moved to New Jersey in 1962 where she worked for the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children & Adults. In 1979, she was instrumental in achieving barrier-free construction design standards in the state of New Jersey. In 1979, Erika moved to Lake Havasu City. She was the founder and board member of the Lake Havasu Crisis Line and charter member of the Interagency and London Bridge Women’s Club. She also served as an advisory board member of the Samaritan Home Health Agency and was on the Lake Havasu City Transit Advisory Committee. Erika served on the boards of Hospice, VICAP, Interagency Council and AARP. Erika was recognized with many awards and honors. These included: Lady of the Year Award, Lake Havasu City Council of Beta Sigma Phi 1988-89; Women Helping Women Award 1989, Soroptimist International of Lake Havasu City; 1990 – AARP – Outstanding Service to the Community. In 2005, Erika moved to Seattle, Wash. She was one of the first 10 residents to move into Ballard Landmark, where she became an ambassador, board member, writer for the community newsletter and community activist. For Erika, working to better her community and the world was more than volunteering for a weekend. She devoted more than five decades to the full time service of others. She will forever be remembered for her free spirit, her undeniably good humor, her ability to bring life to every party and the love she shared with all. She will be missed. Erika is survived by her daughters, Judith Krett, of Renton, Wash., Terry Sanders, of Beaufort, S.C., Cindy Harper, of Atlanta, Ga., and Bonnie Abbott of Seattle, Wash.; her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
