SCHRUM, Edward Wesley

Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on June 15, 2012 - Edward Wesley Schrum, born in Cottonwood, Ariz., July 16, 1951, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, in Kingman. His miracle birth and arrival were a surprise to his parents, Fred and Calla Jo Wright Schrum. His older brother, John, was wondering what the fuss was about this small funny smelling bundle. Ed arrived in this world with a fuss and he left it quietly in his sleep. In his short 60 plus years he tried everything. The number one priority in his life was his family. He tried to find time for everyone, his parents, brothers, sister, wife, children, nieces and nephews, and for his friends also. He tried to install the values of honesty and faithfulness, along with hard work and taking care of your family in all his children. He loved all his kids equally. He also loved and cherished their spouses, Jimmy, Denise and Todd. Ed did so many different things during his lifetime; he tried everything and mastered most. He was a pilot, mechanic, musician, machinist, photographer, artist, silversmith, beekeeper, scuba diver, hunter, fisherman, metal detector, prospector and gardener. He loved motorcycles and drag cars and animals. Ed served as a board member on the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (formerly Walapai Valley) for 10 years. Before being a board member, Ed was a state certified wildland and structure fireman; he was an EMT with ALS training. Ed lived around and in Kingman and Bagdad, Ariz., for over 60 years. He was a member of various organizations over the years. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Civil Air Patrol, the Mohave Prospectors Association, Kingman Elks and Moose. He was by far the most active in the Masonic lodges in the Kingman area. He was the senior warden in Rough Ashlar No. 79 F and AM Lodge. Ed is survived by his wife, Ann of Kingman; son, Steven (Denise) of Mexico; daughters, Elizebeth (Todd) Martin and Rebecca, both of Kingman and Rene (James) Kasting of Kansas; six grandchildren, Candice, James, Nathan, Brandon, Hannah and Brice; and two great-grandchildren, Makenza and Alivia, all of Kansas. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Jan) Schrum of Kingman and Joseph (Charlotte) Brown of Florida; his father-in-law, James Todd of Kingman; nephew, John (Dawn) Dee and their children, Melissa Apts, Dalton and Chace Schrum of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Virginia Todd; and sister, Louise Davis. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at the Kingman Community Foundation, 2985 John L Ave. at Banks. A potluck will follow with open microphone for friends and family. The family hopes everyone who knew and loved Ed will come and help us celebrate Ed's final farewell.
