LYMAN, William Raymond (Bill)


Black’s Show Low Mortuary, Show Low, Arizona William Raymond Lyman (March 15, 1925 ~ June 15, 2012) William Raymond Lyman, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakeside on June 15, 2012. “Bill” was born in Washington D.C. on March 15, 1925, to John and Ollie Lyman. He was raised in Wisconsin. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Seabee division during World War II. Bill met Dottie Yarborough (deceased) and they married in 1947. They then moved to California where they raised three children. Pam(deceased), Gretchen and Terry. Bill and Dottie were married forty years before her passing. Bill made a successful career as a salesman for Firestone and was awarded National Sales Champion in 1983 and 1984. He retired from Firestone in 1987. In 1989 Bill married Mary, his surviving wife of 22 years. He gained three daughters: Shelly, Kelly and Vanessa. He started a second career as a bus driver in San Juan Capistrano, CA for three years before he and Mary moved to Lakeside, AZ in 1991. He continued his bus driving career with the Blueridge Unified School District in Lakeside for almost two decades before his passing. Bill was always asked when he would retire and the answer was always “never”. He worked to educate bus drivers in the classroom until the age of 86, and also served as a volunteer for the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers of Navajo County. He was a voracious reader, loved to play cribbage with friends and was an avid sports fan. Bill is survived by his wife Mary Lyman; sister Mardie Robbins; Daughter Gretchen Waltzman; son Terry Lyman; daughter Shelly Montminy; daughter Kelly Bogusiewicz; daughter Vanessa Bonigut, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many wonderful friends. A celebration of his life will be held in Lakeside,AZ in Early August.
