Luke Michael Lerette, 32, passed on June 17, 2012, but not before touching time and family with his presence. He was born on Sept. 20, 1979, in Cottonwood, Ariz., where he aspired to excel in competitive swimming.
This culminated, but did not end, as Luke qualified for the state swim meet at ASU. He would later become coach and mentor for future aquatic athletes. After graduating from Mingus Union High School in 1998, Luke served four years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Hawaii. He then returned home and attended Yavapai College.
He taught himself Japanese, learned to salsa dance, and researched theology, sociology, and philosophy. He was also an avid outdoorsman. Luke had and enormous capacity for love, life, and family. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his mother, father, three brothers, one sister and many cousins.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood.
