BEAUCHAMP, Alec John


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, June 19, 2012 - After a brief and unexpected illness, Alec John Beauchamp, 77, died April 19, 2012 at his winter home in Ocala, Fla. Al, or Bo, was born May 27, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., to Clarence and Gladys Beauchamp. He is survived by several brothers and sisters. Al will be remembered by his children, John, Sheryl (Lee), Monica, Adele (Jim), Kim, Donna, Liz and Chris (Kim), as well as 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. In 1973, he retired from Pontiac Motors as a design engineer and found a new and better life in Lake Havasu City. He and his wife, Josephine, opened a liquor and toy store, “Quenchers” on the south side of town. After retirement became a bit too boring, Al went to work for McCulloch Chainsaw Corp. as a design engineer and retired in 1983. After a short time in California, he and his companion, Mary Mason, moved to Seattle, Wash., until his retirement from Boeing. Al’s favorite memory of Lake Havasu was with family and friends rating launch ramp retrievals of boats by tourists, as well as BBQ’s, fishing and golfing. Al and Mary also enjoyed going on cruises and vacations with his siblings. They spent many years traveling in their motor home from their summer home in Seattle, visiting family and friends throughout the U.S. and Mexico and ending at their winter home in Ocala, Fla. He participated in many London Bridge Days festivities, his favorite being the best beard contest, winning many times over. He also enjoyed participating in chili cook-offs. As a member of many clubs, his most memorable was the off-road-dune buggy club. Al enjoyed life and lived it on his terms to the fullest. He will be fondly remembered for silly jokes for every occasion and at the end of every phone call. He was the life of the party and could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Out of respect, his wishes will be honored and no formal services will take place, however the family requests that you raise your glass and share a joke with someone you love.
