Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona Tuesday, July 03, 2012 Miss Mary Mendez Salas, 89, of Globe, Ariz. passed away on July 2, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare Nursing Home in Globe, Ariz. She was born in Globe, Ariz. on March 4, 1923, the daughter of Rosalio and Maria (Mendez) Salas. Mary was born, raised and lived in the same neighborhood her whole life. She graduated from Globe High School. She worked at Woolworths for 10 years before going to Beauty School to become a beautician and working at Rose’s Beauty Salon. She had the great opportunity to see both the Pope and Mother Teresa when they came to visit Phoenix. Mary was a member of the Holy Angels Choir and Holy Angels Sodality. She enjoyed on her free time quilting, knitting, crocheting and doing different crafts. She liked going to the Globe Senior Citizens Center and visiting with her friends. Mary was adored by her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her both of her parents; her brothers, Jesus Salas, Raymond Salas and Salvador Salas; and her sisters, Trinidad Bacca and Mary Louise Salas. Mary is survived by her sisters, Rose Salas, Belen Monarrez (Modesto) and Amelia Macias; and her brothers, Manuel Salas, (Jennie), Cruz Salas (Mary Martha) and Carlos Salas (Vivian). Visitation will be on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, followed by Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Broad St. – Globe, AZ 85501 Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe. ~~~~~~~~~~ Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona Wednesday, September 26, 2012 Mary Mendez Salas, a lifelong resident of Salas Lane/Ruiz Canyon in Globe, passed away July 2, 2012 at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe. She was born and raised here and was a graduate of Globe High School. Mary worked at the Woolworths’ Store in Globe for 10 years before attending beauty school. Upon her return, she worked in her sisters’ beauty salon, Rose’s Beauty Salon here in Globe. Even after Rose’s retirement, Mary continued to work there and put in approximately 25 years total at the salon. One of her greatest thrills came from the opportunity to see the Pope when he came to Phoenix and also Sister Teresa on a visit she made to the Valley. A lifetime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, she was a member of the choir as a young woman and the Holy Angels Order of Sodality, which prepares food for receptions held for different church functions. She loved to quilt, crochette, knit, and do just about any kind of craft. She also really enjoyed her visits to the Globe Senior Citizens Center. She was also adored by her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved to spoil. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Globe. Interment was in Globe Cemetery next to her beloved sisters. The family suggests donations be made to: Holy Angels Sodality, 201 S. Broad St., Globe, AZ 85501.
