MOENK, Andrew (Andy) H.


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, July 03, 2012 Andrew (Andy) H. Moenk, 88, went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2012, at home in Yuma surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 3, 1923, in Monticello, Iowa, to Menno and Anna Moenk. He was a WWII Army Veteran and served in Europe during the war. He was one of the early homestead pioneers in Dome Valley beginning in the early 1950s. In addition to farming in Dome Valley and Gila Valley, he was instrumental in the founding of Tri-Valley Ambulance Service where he served as a board member for many years, in which he was fundamentally involved with the procurement and implementation of ambulance services to include "jaws of life" being brought to the eastern communities of Yuma County. He was a Deacon at the First Southern Baptist Church in Wellton, Ariz. Andy was a believer and supporter of programs for children and was an honorary member of the Mohawk Valley Sheep Club, supporter of the Antelope FFA, and Antelope High School sports programs and events. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, he believed in being involved in and giving back to the community, and most of all, a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was a God-loving man who helped his neighbors, he believed in giving others a hand up, and did so many more times that can be counted during his lifetime. Andy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Myrl; brother Garrett of Anamosa, Iowa; sisters Grace Zimmerman of Anamosa, Iowa and Lillian O'Brien-Osthus of Marshall Town, Iowa; son Wesley Moenk (Janet); daughters Anita Southwood, Andrea (Houston) Mayfield, Audrey Moenk (John Alden); 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Shirley Murray, preceded him in death. Andy was known for his hard work, quick wit and the love he shared with all he knew. He believed charity begins at home, and actively contributed to many charities and organizations. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 11711 William St., Wellton, Ariz.
