GOMEZ, Aurora

(Maiden Name: Lopez)

Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, Arizona Sunday, July 08, 2012 Aurora Lopez Gomez 92, born on October 10, 1919, died peacefully on June 27, 2012 with her loving family by her side. No few words can describe this tireless beautiful woman. Born in Hayden AZ, the third of five children, Aurora was brought to Tucson at five-months old. She attended Davis Elementary, Roskruge Middle, and graduated from Tucson High. She married at 20, raised and loved 10 children with a devoted sense for family. While playfully stubborn, she had a keen sense of what was right and wrong; never conflicted, she had a fundamental belief that family and faith in God could sustain everyone. She was supportive of her family and friends and quite the master at seek-and-find word puzzles. Daughter, Wife, Mother, Nana, Tia and Friend - the loss will be tremendous, but the memories will be unforgettable. Aurora was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Cesaria Lopez; two brothers and a sister, and her husband of 62 years, Manuel V. Gomez. She is survived by her sister, Genevieve Touvell; her children, Hope (Peter) Van Alstine, Gloria (Joe) Verdugo, Manuel (Yolanda) Gomez, Connie (David) Mendoza, Artemisa (James) Terrazas, Frank (Sally) Gomez, Michael Gomez (Steve M.), Victor (Maggie) Gomez, Marta (Ruben) Valdez, and Patricia (Oscar) Guevara. She is also survived and blessed by 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
