HAINES,
Jamie
Jamie Haines, former standout athlete at Florence High School, was killed in a car accident early Tuesday morning (Jan. 17, 1989) in Phoenix, Ariz.
Haines, an all-state baseball and basketball player, was attending Grand Canyon College in Phoenix on a baseball scholarship.
According to police, Haines' Ford Bronco struck another car that was stopped at a red light. Haines was dead on arrival at a local hospital.
A rosary will be recited Friday night and Mass will be said Saturday, both at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Florence. Interment will be at Union-Highlands Cemetery.
Haines, who helped pitch the Huskies to second place in last year's Class AA state tournament, had already started baseball practice at Grand Canyon.
