HAINES, Jamie

Jamie Haines, former standout athlete at Florence High School, was killed in a car accident early Tuesday morning (Jan. 17, 1989) in Phoenix, Ariz. Haines, an all-state baseball and basketball player, was attending Grand Canyon College in Phoenix on a baseball scholarship. According to police, Haines' Ford Bronco struck another car that was stopped at a red light. Haines was dead on arrival at a local hospital. A rosary will be recited Friday night and Mass will be said Saturday, both at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Florence. Interment will be at Union-Highlands Cemetery. Haines, who helped pitch the Huskies to second place in last year's Class AA state tournament, had already started baseball practice at Grand Canyon. The Colorado Springs Gazette January 19, 1989
