BARRETT, Grant L.


Grant L. Barrett, 80, of Surprise, Arizona passed away on March 30, 2004 after an extended illness from cancer. He was born on March 23, 1924 in Winona, Minnesota and was the eldest of three sons of LeRoy and Goldie Barrett. Grant enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a B-24 pilot until 1946. After the war ended, he married Gloria Carver in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on September 4, 1948. Grant and Gloria continued their educations at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Grant graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture. He then managed a dairy farm in Alabama for 7 years; he was a nutritionist; he was a sales manager for several food companies, and he later became a manager for the National Food Co. in New Holstein, Wisconsin, and had his own Hay Savor business in Sacramento, California. He was a member of the Surprise, AZ Elks Club, Minnesota American Legion, and the National Rifle Association Golden Eagles. Grant is survived by his wife, Gloria Carver Barrett, and three daughters, Connie Blair, Ellijay, GA., Christine Kalman, and Patty Oliver, of Scottsdale, AZ., brother John of Prescott Valley, AZ., and ten grandchildren. Grant's parents and his brother Robert preceded him in death. Services will be held at a later date in Oshkosh, Wisconsin where Grant and Gloria spent their summers enjoying Lake Winnebago with their pontoon boat and many friends.
