Shirley Gruber, 78, passed away March 28, 2004 at Odyssey House in Mesa, Arizona. Shirley was born January 24, 1926 in Aurora, Illinois; she lived in Aurora for 70 years before moving to Chandler, Arizona with her husband Nicholas who passed away five years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Opal Hearn, two brothers Frank (Chick) and Richard Hearn. She is survived by two sons Nicholas (Zoe Ann) Gruber of Aurora, Illinois, Dennis (Marie) Gruber of Sun Lakes, Arizona, one daughter Linda (Craig) Nietzold of Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Amy Sweezer of Montgomery, Illinois, Ryan Eggleston of Pinnellas Park, Florida, Kayla Nietzold of Chandler, Arizona, Roxanne Flowers of Chicago, Illinois, and Dennis Jr. of Sun Lakes, Arizona. A visitation was held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. Dobson Rd., Mesa, Arizona. The family prefers donations be made to Odyssey Hospice, 202 E. Earll Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85012. Arrangements entrusted to Lakeshore Mortuary, Mesa. Published in the Arizona Republic from 3/31/2004 - 4/2/2004.
