Shirley Ann Lauver of Glendale, Arizona, born March 9, 1925 in Seymour, Indiana, passed away April 1, 2004.
Daughter of Bert Ragle Corbin and Marie Gerkin and step father James Cordill.
She graduated in 1943 from Shields High School in Seymour where she belonged to the 4-H Club and sang with a trio, school band and glee club. She began her career as a dental assistant at Freeman Field Air Base, where she met Thomas A. Phillips. They were married in 1944 in Amory, Mississippi. They and their four children traveled the world while in the Air Force. While in Japan, she developed her artistic talents with oil painting and flower arranging. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Major Phillips died in 1962.
She worked as a dental assistant at Fort Hood, Texas. In 1966, she married James N. Lauver, Lt. Col., US Army and traveled to Germany. Upon retirement, they lived in Bandera and South Padre Island, Texas, finally settling in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Widowed again in 1994, she began her new career of volunteering at Mountain View Hospital, Las Vegas. In 1999, she moved to Glendale, Arizona, where she volunteered at Arrowhead Hospital.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Jane Ward of Lexington, KY, her children Julie Laurel (Marty) of Phoenix, AZ, Betty DeGaetano (Vincent) of Pinson, TN, Tom Phillips (Sherry) of San Antonio, TX and William Phillips (Laura) of Jackson, TN, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 330 West Coral Gables Drive, Phoenix, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
