The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, July 18, 2012 Hazel Conklin passed away peacefully July 7 in Mercy Hospital Iowa City surrounded by her family. Hazel was born in Milford, Neb., June 1, 1927. Her family moved to Kalona where she grew up and graduated from high school. She married Richard “Dick” Conklin in 1946. They lived in Richland where she was a bookkeeper. She lived there for 40 years until they retired to Wickenburg in 1990. Hazel enjoyed golfing, dancing, and playing bridge. They greatly enjoyed traveling the world with friends. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Phoenix Suns fan. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel is survived by daughters Deborah (Patrick) Kinney of Oxford, Iowa, and Sally Salazar of Freeland, Wash.; grandchildren David Kinney of Chicago, Sarah (Kyle) Morrissey of Overland Park, Kan., Eric Salazar of Anchorage, Alaska; great-grandsons Connor Morrissey and Oscar Salazar; and a sister Elvera Brenneman of Dallas; plus nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend Dick, parents Chris and Lucinda (Hershberger) Earnest, brother Norman Earnest, and sister Virgie Miller. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Peterseim Funeral Home is in charge or arrangements.
