Dr. Ken Hildreth left time and entered eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 23, 2012. He was born on June 11, 1924 in Keyser, WV to the late Kenneth and Eleze Kite Hildreth.
He grew up in Laurel, MD. Ken served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Nevada , USS Wisconsin and the USS Albany. Following service, he earned a B.S. at the University of Maryland in Physical Education where he was captain of the soccer team. He later earned his M.S. in Education and Ed.D. in Safety Studies from West Virginia University. “Doc” served as a teacher and coach in Prince Georges County until 1975, where he brought home many trophies for winning seasons in baseball, girls’ softball, basketball, football and golf. In 1973 his girls softball team were county champions with a record of 18-0.
Among his career accomplishments in education were those of teacher, principal and superintendent of schools. He also served as an instructor at Northern Arizona University and West Virginia University. Dr. Hildreth established the 4-day school week in the state of Arizona while superintendent at Ash Fork School District in Yavapai County.
During his retirement, Dr. Hildreth lived on his farm in Hebron since 1981, where he enjoyed farming, various renovation projects, antique collecting and restoration and hunting at Muddy Hole. He also was involved in home building on Delmarva and spent several years working in education on the Navajo reservation in Arizona at Rough Rock, Red Mesa and Many Farms.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son; Kenneth H. Hildreth, III.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years; Bonnie L. Hildreth of Hebron, five children; Cheryl of Laurel, MD, Michael of Savannah, GA, Mark of Florida, Michele of Bowie, MD and Audette of Hebron, MD, grandchildren; Jason, Mary, Michelle, Todd, Lisa, Steven, Kaylan, Clare, Adam and Breana and ten great-grandchildren.
Private Interment services will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
