RUSSELL, SR., Daniel Byron


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Thursday, August 02, 2012 Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation resident, Daniel Byron Russell Sr. entered eternal life Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. He was 86. A native Arizonan, Russell moved to Fort McDowell from Prescott in 1988. Dan was one of 10 children to the late Samuel Adam Russell and late Dora Taketchera Russell and was the beloved husband to the late Nora Seiber Russell for over 30 years. Russell is survived by four daughters, Arlene Russell-Guine, Terri Coops, Charlene Corbins and Doris Rivera; three sons, Byron Russell, Daniel Russell Jr. and Paul Russell. Russell had one son that preceded him in death, the late Darrell Russell. He had 10 grandchildren; and two great grandsons; two sisters, Winona Durant and Freida Eswonia; and one brother Aaron Russell. Russell was a United States Army Corporal that served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. Following the war, Russell worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Route Carrier in Prescott for over 30 years. Russell was raised speaking the Yavapai language fluently. Because of his in depth knowledge of the language, he would often preach in churches in Yavapai, and was often asked to participate in invocations speaking only in the Yavapai language. As well as translate hymns and scripture in the Yavapai language. Russell enjoyed listening to rhythm and blues music, playing the guitar, being with his family and being an avid reader. Russell touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and his trademark humor all the way to the end. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation service Friday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fountain Hills Christian Center, 16239 E Ironwood in Fountain Hills. A Celebration of Life service will be at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at the Fort McDowell Recreation Center, 16402 North Fort McDowell Road in Fort McDowell. Information provided by survivors.
