Bivin "Bill" Belcher, 82, of Goodyear died of Alzheimer's disease July 29, 2012.
He was born March 26, 1930, in Stonewall, Miss. In 1947, he enlisted in the Army Air Forces at age 17 and in 1950, was sent to Luke Field to do preliminary work so Luke could be reopened because of the Korean War.
While there, he met Mollie Keller and they were married on Christmas Eve.
He retired from the Arizona Air National Guard in 1972 and enrolled in Arizona State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. He then became an automotive teacher at Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale.
Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife, Mollie; one son, Steve; one daughter, Penny; three sisters, Annelle, Dean and Faye of Mississippi; one brother, Jimmie of Mississippi; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service followed by lunch in the fellowship hall will begin at noon Saturday at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 104 W. Western Ave., Avondale.
Mr. Belcher left his body to the Alzheimer's Research Center in Sun City.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
