Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Amy Takenaka-Websdale (March 18, 1956 - August 7, 2012) Amy Hatsue Takenaka-Websdale, age 56, passed away after a 16 year battle with cancer at the Flagstaff Medical Center on August 7th 2012. Born on March 18, 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaiito Hiroshi and June Takenaka, Amy graduated from Castle High School in Kaneohe, Hawaii in 1974. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1978 and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of Oregon in Eugene in 1987. Amy worked in the field of social services in a variety of capacities. She commenced work at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 1994. Until her death, she was the Assistant Director over the Senior Corps program of the Civic Service Institute at NAU. In addition, Amy performed extensive community service in Coconino County. Amy was the founder of the NAU Hapa Club, an organization for students from Hawaii. She was also active in Halau Hula Napuaokalei'ilima and was a practicing Buddhist belonging to the Soka Gakkai International, Glory District from Eagle Peak. Amy will be especially remembered for her warmth of heart and spirit, her optimism, and her courage and determination in the face of numerous medical challenges. She will be deeply missed by family, friends and many others who knew her. Survivors include her mother, June Takenaka of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and her daughter, Mia Websdale of Tucson, Arizona. Her brother, Mark Takenaka, and her father, Hiroshi Takenaka, preceded Amy in death. Services will be held at 2.00 p.m. August 11, 2012 at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff.
