Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, July 31, 2012 > James Leslie Martin < > April 19, 1935 — July 25, 2012 < James (Jim) Leslie Martin went to his reward on April 19, 1935 after a very short illness. He was born in Poulsbo, Wash. on April 19, 1935. He grew up in San Diego and worked until retirement for teamsters. Upon retirement he moved to Lake Havasu City. Jim served his country with the 12th Marine Corps during the Korea War and after four years transferred to Reserves until 1960. Jim made his mark here in Havasu as an all-around volunteer in various works of charity. He belonged to VFW, was a Knight of Columbus (4th degree), belonged to the American Legion. Jim was a man who did not need to be asked to do; just saw the need and did it. He volunteered in the Soup Kitchen of Our Lady of the Lake and for special needs children. Jim will be greatly missed by his many friends for his generosity, good humor and friendliness. His faith made him a strong man. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; and wife, Marion. He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline (Jackie) Metzinger; and very good friend and companion, Kathy Clubs. A Memorial Mass will be offered Friday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake with a reception following the Mass.
