SHIPLEY, Walter Lester


Today's News-Herald, Lake havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, August 2, 2012 - Walter L. Shipley passed away July 27, 2012 in Yerington, Nev. He was 86. Walter was born in Centralia, Wash., Dec. 20, 1925, the son of Claude L. and Delfa Lillie (Gans) Shipley. Walt lived in Richland, Wash., until joining the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was discharged in December 1945. In the Navy he served as Fireman First Class and received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with five stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with one star, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Walter was a retired Four Square minister and a Lake Havasu City resident. They recently moved to Yerington, Nev., to be closer to their son. Walter is survived by his wife, Helen L. Shipley; son, Walter D. Shipley, of Yerington, Nev.; and daughter, Judy Lakey, of Payette, Idaho; two brothers and a sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Walter's funeral service will be Aug. 4, at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nev. Burial will be Aug. 6 at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.
