Joseph Ward Lintz of Sequim, Wash., lost his battle with lung cancer on July 15, 2012 at the age of 84. He was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on July 1, 1928 to Joseph and Ethel Lintz. Even as a young man, music was his passion. He was a member of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. He met and married his first wife Patricia while stationed in Salina, Kan. They married and moved to Louisiana where they had a daughter, Sherry. Once discharged, he attended Bethany Lutheran College, where he majored in music, then moved to California to pursue his love of music, where they had a second daughter, Julie.
He started his career as a trumpet maker at F.E. Olds & Son, then to Benge Trumpet Co. where he was plant supervisor, and finally to Calichio in N. Hollywood. Joe was one of the founders of the Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle corps, where he arranged and taught music while mentoring many youth. He influenced a lot of lives with his wisdom and love of life. Joe was famous for his pool parties and bar-b-ques. He loved to feed and entertain people. In 1997, they moved to Lake Havasu City. He and Patricia were married for 53 years when she died of pancreatic cancer on April 25, 2003. In July of 2004, he married his second wife, also named Patty. They lived in Lake Havasu for several years, and then moved to Sequim, Wash. One of Joe’s favorite memories was a fishing trip to Alaska with his long-time friend, Zig Kanstul.
Joe is survived by his wife Pat; daughters Sherry Merry, and Julie (Rick) Parisi; granddaughters Shawnda (Ray) Parisi, Jennifer (Curtis) Rogers; grandson Brian Merry and great- grandchildren, Nikki, Dylan, Jayden, Jessica, Cohen and Jaelynn, all of Lake Havasu City. Joe will be lovingly remembered for his big heart, warm smile and endearing personality. As Joe would say, “again, from the top.”
A celebration of Joe’s life will take place on Aug. 18, at 1 p.m., at the Mountain View Association Club House 2635 Anita, Lake Havasu City, Az. 86404.
