GUSCOTT, Gilbert (Gil) James


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 Gilbert (Gil) James Guscott, a devoted husband and father, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012. He was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of Gilbert and Clara (Schulke) Guscott. Gil was 78 years old. On Aug. 27, 1955, Gil married the love of his life, Barbara Linton, who survives him. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary next week. Other survivors include his children, Michael A. (Pam) Guscott of West Chester, Pa., Elizabeth A. (Nick) Trevisick of Brentwood, Tenn., Nancy G. (Floyd - deceased) Frost of Durham, N.C., Charles D. (Sherri) Guscott of Glendale, Calif.; grandchildren Oliver, Liam, Grant, Aaron, Alexandria and Olivia; sister Shirley Miller; two nieces; and one nephew. Gil graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1955. In 1957, he graduated from the Mayo Clinic as a registered physical therapist. Gil later earned his CLU from the American College in 1975. He worked for Occidental/Transamerica Insurance Company for over 30 years before retiring in 1995 as an executive director. He was a 50-year member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Upon moving to Prescott, Gil joined the Noon Lions, where he served in various positions, including president. He received a life membership in 2012. His passion for children and the outdoors was made complete when he served on the board of Camp Tatiyee. Gil and Barbara devoted many hours of service to the camp with joy. He was also an active member of the Prescott United Methodist Church. Gil was an avid reader, and loved history, music, and traveling. His love of nature led to his passion in photography. Gil loved woodworking, and some of his talents can be viewed at the Prescott UMC. Those who knew him will miss his engaging personality, warm smile and wonderful sense of humor; he could never pass up telling a great story or joke. One chapter has closed for him and a new and more glorious one has opened. A memorial service for Gil will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St. in Prescott.
