Dan Rhea Mills, 80, passed away Aug. 15, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz., surrounded by family.
He was born in Decatur, Texas, Jan. 30, 1932, the son of Prima Worley Mills and James Sumpter Dye, and lovingly raised by Prima and Alex Lee Mills.
Dan grew up throughout southern Arizona, including Bisbee, Warren, Douglas and Wilcox, and graduated from Prescott High School in 1950. He came to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona and graduated in 1961. He was a teacher for more than 30 years, spending the majority of that time at Flowing Wells High School. Dan made Tucson his home where he raised his family. After retiring, Dan moved to Paulden, Ariz., with his wife Heide. He touched countless lives along the way, forging lasting friendships and leaving his legacy through his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and instilled that love in his children.
Dan is survived by his wife Heide Mills of Paulden; his stepdaughter Susan Anderson (Dave) of Prescott; his son Dan Mills Jr. (Jennifer) of Tucson; his daughter Lara Mills-Knuth (Bill) of Tucson; his daughter Jamie Brady (James) of Tucson; and many adoring grandchildren.
Celebrations of Dan's life will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at the Tucson Museum and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, in Paulden, Ariz. (for directions, email lmillsknuth@gmail.com). It would be Dan's request that people in attendance wear colors. His favorite colors mirrored his love for the outdoors... blue and green.
