Gary Vredeveld passed away on Aug. 9, 2012, in Prescott, Ariz., with his family at his side. He was born on Dec. 11, 1947, in Almelo, Holland, the son of Heinrich and Gerritje Vredeveld.
He immigrated with his family to America via Ellis Island. Gary attended school in Salt Lake City, Utah. He enlisted in the United States Army at an early age and served honorably through tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea, earning several medals and honors. After his military service, he settled in Phoenix, Ariz., where he met his wife, Linda. Gary began a career in law enforcement with the Phoenix Police Department and then transferred to the Prescott Police Department in 1979.
He and Linda raised their two sons in Prescott. His family was his most precious asset and he retired in 2008, to enjoy a more relaxed life. His love of street rods led him to become a member of the Mountain Top Street Rodders, where he and Linda enjoyed many outings and car shows with wonderful friends. He served his country and community with pride while always putting his family first.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 39 years; two wonderful sons and "daughters" Kelly and Erin Vredeveld and Chris and Jennie Vredeveld; along with three beautiful grandsons, Weston, Declan and Dalton Vredeveld. He is also survived by brothers, Henk Vredeveld, Luitsen (Carol) Vredeveld, Bert (Tina) Vredeveld; and sister, Ann Booth.
Private services were conducted at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley. Please visit www.sunrisefuneralhome.com to sign Gary's guestbook.
