Havasu News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Wednesday, August 29, 2012 - James Robert Boomhower, 78, a Lake Havasu City retiree, passed away in his home Friday, Aug. 24, after a tough three year battle with leukemia. A lifelong resident of South Bend, Ind. Jim was born in Chicago, Ill. July 28, 1934 to Earl and Goldie Boomhower. He was a 1952 graduate of Mishawaka High School in Indiana. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Lois Webb; they were married 46 years before her passing in 1999. Jim and Lois where blessed with three children, Debby Lehman, of South Bend, Ind., Doug (Emily) Boomhower, of Norco, Calif. and Lori (Gary) Kruse of, Glenwood, Iowa; two grandchildren, Travis James Kruse and Tori Alyssa Kruse; three step-granddaughters, Julie Spaulding, Trisha McClanahan and Shawna (Alan) Sorenson along with their children, Mackenzie, Courtney, Emerson, Sydney, Jackson, Kaden and Parker, all of Overland Park, Kan.; five siblings, Bill (Pat) Boomhowerm, of Deming, N.M., Mary Stafford, of Mishawaka, Ind., Karen (Bob) Knoblock, of Largo, Fla. and Clifford (Brenda) Boomhower, of Orange Park, Fla. and Ray (Rea) Boomhower, of Ft. Myers, Fla., along with many nieces and nephews. Cooking was one of his passions; he owned and operated the Flavor Spot restaurant in Mishawaka. He then moved to North Liberty, Ind. to work on a farm and raise horses, he became plant manager of the Wheelhorse Plant. A big part of his life was with the 4-H Fair organization, with which he was involved for over 30 years, retiring as St. Joseph County Executive Fair Secretary. He was also a lifetime member of the First English Lutheran Church, Mishawaka, Ind. Funeral services for Jim will be at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN Friday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m.; friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Entombment will follow the services on Friday at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind. The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair, Jim Boomhower Scholarship Fund, 5117 S. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, IN 46614.
