Stanley Joseph Lovett was born in Pasadena, Calif., Nov. 26, 1945. He started coming to Lake Havasu City in 1952, fishing off Road Ends Camp. Boy Scouts, water polo and surfing occupied his youth. In 1976, he met his second wife, Shirley, and moved to San Clemente, Calif. Stanley fished and sailed the sea, owned a courier service and T-shirt company and worked at Ace Hardware.
Stan, as he was known by his family and friends, moved to Yucca Valley, Calif., in 1982 and worked at National Lumber & Ace. He also designed a hand tool, “Survivor Driver.” His down time was hiking in Joshua Tree National Monument and was with JOSAR Search & Rescue in technical rock rescue.
Every year, he shared their anniversary in the Tinnemaha Camp Ground near Big Pine, Calif., dry camping.
In 1991, Stan moved to Lake Havasu City, “just felt right,” he claimed. He learned a new trade in pest control, assisted with the Havasu Classic Boat events and loved fishing Havasu’s beautiful lake.
In 1999, he started Stan the Bugman Pest Control with the support of his wife. He was known for his loving humorous wit. His cats attest to that. Stan was smitten to “Jeopardy” questions, loved to read, crossword puzzles and making barbed-wire art.
Stan’s favorite comeback to all who said, “Well I never knew that.” was “Well, now you’re old enough.” Yes, dubbed “Stan the Bug Man,” he knew his bugs.
Survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Shirley Alexina Lovett-Waldorf; mother-in-law, Alexina Susan B. Leichtner; daughters, Lori Lynn Ahumada and Christa Richardson; brother, Roger A. (Catherine) Lovett; grandsons, Michael Anthony Lovett, Parker A. Rivera and Blake Richardson; niece, Mandy Lynn; nephews, Roger A. Lovett Jr., Michael Scott and Robert Vernon. Preceded in death by his parents Donald Vernon and Edith Irene Lovett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
