Medics responded in rainy conditions to the 928MX Promotions, Inc., motocross racetrack about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to aid an unresponsive male. Racetrack owner and operator Danette Gerding said the weekly practice fee is $20 per each rider. The number of riders fluctuates from 30 to 200 depending on the season. Gerding said she has known Townsend through the years through her own kids, and that he was a desert racer. “We have raced together,” Gerding said of Townsend. “He had not done a lot of track racing, so it was new to him.” Gerding previously facilitated motocross racing at a location on the Island near Crazy Horse Campground. After three years, Gerding made the move to SARA Park and set up shop with the current motocross track in May. The memorial fundraiser coincides with a regular Wednesday practice. While spectators are usually admitted free of charge, Gerding is asking for a donation at the door. All donations, and the $20 riders’ fees, will be donated to the Townsend family. Gates open at 6 p.m., and a moment of silence to honor Townsend is set for 7 p.m. The motocross practice will follow, for more information visit www.928mx.com. The fundraiser is at Havasu 95 Speedway, 7260 SARA Parkway, in SARA Park. You may contact the reporter at jhanson@havasunews.com
