He has five grandchildren, Alexander Michaelson, Spencer Michaelson, Ian Oakes, Alyssa James and Alexsandra James.
Malcolm was the youngest son of Maren Hansen and Robert Brownlie of Fairfax, Iowa. Robert Jr., was the eldest brother, and all have passed on. He was born in 1930 in Fairfax, Iowa. He served the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1960, he moved to Phoenix and worked for Moore Business Forms as an account executive for 33 years. In 1966, he found his friend, Joanne, in Phoenix. They had dated in Fairfax, Iowa, in 1950, and had a long correspondence during the war. They began a romance again in Phoenix and were married in 1967.
He was a devoted and very involved father to Tom and Beth and he showed his love for family and friends through his talent for cooking, which he learned from Joanne. He was an avid camper, fisherman and outdoorsman. He hiked the Grand Canyon. He was a social guy and was always up for having a party with friends and family. He was active in community service organizations for the disabled, the Special Olympics, Down Syndrome Association, Kiwanis Club and Civitan Club. He was always there to lend a hand to someone in need and always full of forgiveness.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling around the U.S. with Joanne in an RV. They also traveled to Mexico, Europe, the United Kingdom and Scotland. He was a devoted grandparent to his grandkids. He beat his cancer for 32 years through sheer will to live and a healthy lifestyle. He loved life and his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
