The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, September 05, 2012 Dorothea (Dottie) Rose Schutte Dottie Schutte peacefully passed away at home in Prescott, Ariz., on Aug. 31, 2012, one day short of her 93rd birthday. Her cheerful spirit, grace, kindness and good humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dottie was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Sheridan, Ind., to Kiefer and Effie Elliott, and spent her childhood in Sheridan. She developed a diverse musical talent, participating in choirs and school bands, playing the piano and the trombone. Dottie attended Stephens College and Indiana University. She worked at the soda fountain in her father's drugstore, at Eli Lilly, and as a flight attendant for TWA. Dottie married Lawrence Schutte, a captain in the U.S. Air Force, on March 31, 1945, and spent the next 30 years at duty stations ranging from England to Hawaii. She was a busy mother of three children, began painting as a hobby, and developed into a prolific artist. Upon their retirement in Prescott in 1976, Dottie joined the Prescott Art Docents, Prescott Fine Arts, and the Mountain Artists Guild, and was on the board of Friends of Yavapai College Art Gallery and a member of PEO, Chapter Y. After her husband of 35 years passed away in 1980, Dottie continued to live in Prescott, enjoying the companionship of many dear friends. Dottie is survived by her son, Bob Schutte of Prescott; daughter Carol Hall and her husband Joe of Fountain Hills; and son Dave Hartle-Schutte and his wife Maureen of Tucson. She has five grandchildren, Chad, Wesley, Erika, Brett and Tara; and four great grandchildren. A gathering to celebrate and share memories of Dottie's life will take place in Prescott in late September or early October, with details to be announced at a later date.
