Raquel De Leon, 81, of Flagstaff, passed away September 11, 2012. She was born January 11, 1931 in Williams Arizona and moved to Zacatecas Mexico at the age of 2. She lived in Mexico, marrying her husband, Santiago, June 6, 1946, at the age of 15. After moving back to the United States, she spent time moving around the states until she settled in Flagstaff, AZ in 1951.
Mrs. De Leon enjoyed cooking for her family and made excellent tamales, green chili, red chili, spanish rice and fresh tortillas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent most of her years raising her family and enjoying her life with her husband of 66 years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting and praying for family and friends.
Mrs. De Leon is survived by her husband, Santiago, her children: Yolanda Casados (Alfred), Mario Deleon, Fernando Deleon (Mary), Santiago Deleon Jr (Lisa), Joanne Castruita (Jaime), Irene Deleon (Luis), and Rick Deleon; her brother Leon F. Quintanar, twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her father Bernardino Quintanar, mother Elodia Martinez, son Johnny Deleon and daughter Sylvia Gossman.
Holy Rosary will take place Friday, September 14, 2012 at 7:00 pm, Funeral Mass will be Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 12:00 noon, both at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2257 E. Cedar Avenue, Flagstaff, Arizona.
