DURAN, SR., Jose Alberto (Ruben)


West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona Friday, September 14, 2012 Jose Alberto "Ruben" Duran Sr., 92, of Tolleson died Sept. 9, 2012, at his home. Mr. Duran was born March 18, 1920, in Topeka, Kan., to Albino and Simona Duran. He was a World War II veteran and served with the 8th Engineer Squadron as a demolition specialist. He was awarded four Battle Stars and one Arrowhead for major campaigns in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Alberto Duran Jr. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margarita Berumen Duran; one daughter, Cecilia D. Fernandez; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Santiago Cortez of Denver. Visitation will be at 9:15 a.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 512 N. 93rd Ave. in Tolleson. A rosary recital will be at 10:15 a.m. with a Mass celebration at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave. in Glendale.
