BARBANO, Lucille

Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from September 19 to September 26, 2012 - Lucille Barbano, age 79, a 23-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz., lost her battle with lung and liver cancer on Friday, September 14, 2012, at home. It's hard to understand why such a healthy woman who had been hospitalized only four times in her life (three of those times giving birth to her children) could pass away so suddenly. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 30, 1933, and was raised in a German household as an only child until her brother was born when she was 17 years old. Lucille lived above her parent's German deli bakery store until the age of 21, when she married Raymond Barbano in 1954. Two years later, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., bought a small house in Gardena, and eventually settled in Buena Park in 1959. They then moved to Visalia in 1975. After retiring in 1989, they moved to Bullhead City, Arizona. Lucille was an amazing woman, a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who held true to her beliefs. Lucille was very active in her community, where she spent many hours working as a demonstrator at local grocery/department stores in town. She also volunteered numerous hours at the Bullhead City Senior Center. Lucille will be most remembered for her talents in the kitchen, where she had an amazing ability to come up with the tastiest last minute dishes, especially desserts! Lucille is survived by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Barbano; three children, Robert (Anna) Barbano, Gina (Larry) Reese, and Jeri Ortega; brother, Ron Elton of New Jersey. She so loved and spoiled her eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service and Memorial Celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Desert Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 9250 South Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley, Ariz. A bereavement dinner will immediately follow at the Bullhead City Senior Center, 2285 Trane Rd., in Bullhead City.
