Joyce “Joy” Stevens passed away surrounded by her loved ones at home in the early morning hours on September 19, 2012. Joy was born in Muhlenberg, PA on October 21, 1932. Joy spent some time in the cosmetology field in the early years of her life. She then met and married the love of her life, Ray Stevens on October 17, 1953 and began their life together living in various cities across the country while Ray was in the United States Army.
Joy and Ray soon settled down in Battlecreek, MI and began their family. In 1972, Joy and her family relocated to Flagstaff, AZ where she spent the remainder of her years in the beauty of the mountains. Joy loved the little things in life, including iced tea, music, cosmetology, and sports (as one of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ biggest fans).
She is survived by Ray Stevens (husband), Doug Stevens (son), Donna Baca (daughter), and Kayla and Steve Baca (grandchildren). She will be remembered for her quick wit, contagious smile, loving soul, selfless attitude, and seemingly endless supply of Double-Mint gum.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the workers of Northland Hospice, Dr. Cindy Martin, and all of the other healthcare workers involved in her care for making her last days as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northland Hospice, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002 . At her request, no services will be held.
Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary.
