He came to live in Flagstaff, August 1969 as a child. He graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1979 and went on to graduate from Northern Arizona University in 1984 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and Special Education.

He became principal at Mancos, Colorado at the age of 29 and later principal of Oak Creek School in Cornville, AZ. In 1995 he accepted a counseling position at Sechrist Elementary School.
In 2002, he suffered a brain aneurysm, which left him unable to continue counseling and to fulfill all of his dreams of working with children. As a young man, Doug enjoyed the mountains, the forest and 4-wheel driving in his spare time.
He would like to be remembered as someone who was devoted to Jesus, he loved Jesus with all his heart, and he wanted others to know Jesus too. Doug had said, “I love my Jesus more than anyone or anything. I pray that all will come to know Jesus in their lives too.” He also was devoted to helping and working with children.
