BUEHRER, Theophil Frederic


Dr. Buehrer services today Dr. Theophil Frederic Buehrer, Ph D, professor of agricultural chemistry and soils, died Thrusday, Dec. 5 at Valley View Memorial Hospital in Youngtown. A two-year resident of Prescott, he lived in retirement at 1650 White Oak Circle. He was born Dec. 20, 1891 at Brenham, Tex. His education included; BA and MA degrees from the University of Texas; Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He was an instructor in chemistry at the University of Arizona from 1921-23; assistant professor, 1923-26; associate professor, 1926-29; full professor in 1929; Chairman of the Agricultural Chemistry and Soils Department, 1932-57; Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture at the U of A, 1954-58; Foreign Service soils specialist under ICA at Baghdad, Iraq, 1953; coordinator UA-ICA Iraq Contract Project, 1957-59. He returned to the U of A in 1960 and was consultant to the Ford Foundation's Agriculture College at Shiroz, Iran, 1960-61. Dr. Buehrer was group leader and consultant to the Vice Chancellor Agriculture University at Bangalore, India with AID for two years, 1964-65. His honorary societies include; Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, Thi Lambda Upsilon, Pi Mu Epsilon, Alpha Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta, Social franternity was Theta Chi. The merit award from the U of A and distinguished service award from Phi Lambda Upsilon were conferred on him. Also he was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Epes Randolph Lodge 32, F & AM. Tucson. He was a member of both the Sun City and Prescott United Methodist churches. Survivors include: his widow, Rosa Lee Buehrer of Prescott; daughters, Mrs. Ruby James and Ruth Buehrer; stepchildren, Mrs. Cora Lee Cates and R.L. Woods; two sisters out of state and five grandchildren. Services will be at United Methodist Church in Sun City at 1 p.m. today. Entombment will be at Greenwood Mausoleum, Phoenix. The family suggest contributions to the United Methodist Church in Prescott.
