William Waara, 89, who died Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital, Phoenix, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Congregational church. Burial will be in the Pioneer's Home Cemetery. Mr. Waara was a retired civil engineer and mineral surveyor. Survivors include his children William, Dr. Robert A, and Mrs. Howard J. William Warra, 89, died Sunday, March 30 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. He was born July 24, 1885, at Calumet, Mich. Mr. Waara had been a pioneer civil engineer and mineral surveyor for the U.S. Government in Arizona since 1909. He had been a resident of this city for the past 66 years. Mr. Waara was involved in many major city and state engineering projects, including the construction of the Yarnell highway. He had been a guest at the Arizona Pioneer's Home for the past 11 years. Mr. Waara was a member of the Elks Lodge, BPOE No. 330, for over 65 years. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Howard J. (Barbara) Whitlock of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, William of Bridgeport, Conn., and Dr. Robert A. Waara of Newport Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren. Services at First Congregational Church will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 4. Visitation will be at Hampton Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 3.
