Billy Joe Drake, age 67 of Globe, Ariz. passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at home in Central Heights. He was born in Apache, Okla. on Oct. 22, 1944, the son of Hurschel Evite Drake and Ivey Lorine Acton.
He enlisted in the Marines on June 15, 1967, served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on April 11, 1972. Billy began working at Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company in March of 1969, and served 38 years at the Tank house, retiring in January of 2007. Over the years he had been active in Farm/Little League Baseball, YABA program and the bowling alley. Many may remember him assisting families with burials at our local cemeteries.
In retirement he enjoyed being with his family, friends and neighbors (he was always helping someone out).
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy.
He leaves behind his daughter, Cheryl, son, Michael, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons, all of Globe. Bill is also survived by one sister and one brother.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Miles Funeral Services Globe Chapel, 237 S. Sutherland St., in Globe, Ariz. Services will follow at 10 a.m.
