The death of Mrs John D (Billie) Fletcher September 27 at her home on Rose Lane took from the community one of its most active civic workers during the more than a quarter of a century she had lived here.
At the time of her death she was serving as President of the Wickenburg Library Association following many years on the Board of Directors of that organization. Long identified with the First Presbyterian Church here, she was one of the Elders. Her vast energy and organizational ability included serving as president of the American Association Congress Bridge League. She was a mainstay of the Wickenburg Duplicate Bridge Club. Twenty-five years ago she aided in the organization of Las Damas, the women's riding organization. During its active years, she was affiliated with the American Association of University Women. In her college days she was a member of Phi Lambda Theta and Alpha Chi Omega sororities.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. September 29 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev W Howard Blazer officiating and burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
Mrs Fletcher served for more than 20 years as Remuda Ranch Private School Superintendent and in that connection acquired a wide acquaintance among guests and their children visiting that ranch. She was born January 21, 1910 in Kansas City, Mo., and came to Arizona in 1924.
She is survived by her husband John D Fletcher; a son John D Jr, of Palo Alto, Calif; her sister, Mrs Mary Elizabeth White of Kansas City and her father, John McClelland of Chicago, Calif. One grandson also survives.
