ORTLUND, Robert (Bob) Benjamin


Bunker Family Funeral & Cremation, Mesa, Arizona Robert Benjamin Ortlund August 20, 1915 ~ October 3, 2012 Robert “Bob” Benjamin Ortlund, 97, went home to Glory on Friday, October 5, 2012, at home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born on August 20, 1915 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Julius B. and Minnie G. Ortlund. He is predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of over 70 years, Dona Belle. Bob served honorably in the United States Army, World War II, from August 1, 1941 to December 20, 1945. He was an Intelligence Operations Non-commissioned Officer, involved in collecting information regarding the location and strength of enemy troops. He was awarded the European-African Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars. In 1951, Bob and Dona Belle moved to Arizona where they raised two children and devoted their lives and talents to Christian service. They were youth leaders; Bob directed the church choir while Dona Belle played the organ and Bob used his extraordinary tenor voice to sing God’s praises. He was a Bible teacher and church leader; he touched many lives with his down-to-earth loving faith and his infectious sense of humor. Bob is survived by his sister Charlotte Vetter of McPherson, Kansas, his son Robert A. Ortlund of Payson, his daughter, Charlotte Wells of Kingman, three grandchildren (Sarah, David and Breanna) and two great-grandchildren (Faith and Zion).
