SERNAS, Jesse Torres

West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona Tuesday, October 16, 2012 Jesse Torres Sernas, 71, of Avondale died Sept. 28, 2012, at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix. Mr. Sernas was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Phoenix to Amado and Francisca Sernas. He is survived by one daughter; five sons; three sisters; two brothers; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He attended Agua Fria High School in Avondale and garnered honors in football, basketball and baseball. Following graduation in 1960, he continued his studies at Phoenix College before marrying and starting a family. He was self-employed for most of his life. He got his start in the family business, Sernas Trucking, and later operated his own wrecking yard. A memorial was held Oct. 5 at American Legion Post 61 in Avondale.
