CATHCART,
Richard Douglas (Doug)
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/16/2012
Richard Douglas Cathcart (Doug) was born December 29, 1973 in Willcox, Arizona. He died October 10, 2012 in Alpine, Arizona. Doug was the seventh child born to Edward and Norma Cathcart.
Ed and Norma were the proud parents of eight children, all of whom have names beginning with D: Dawney, David, Dennis, Danette, Darla, Dale, Doug and Diana. This big family was raised with love in their home and all were very proud to be known as Cathcart’s and to be part of “the Eight D’s.” Ed’s love of sports was passed on to his children and Doug was no exception.
From a young age Doug participated in street football with his siblings and neighbors, little league baseball, swimming at the public pool and shooting hoops in the driveway at home. Doug’s love of sports never diminished. Doug always loved to have a good conversation about local, college and professional sports. He knew team records and players stats like no one else.
Doug also loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and knew the scriptures very well. He served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Chicago, Illinois. After his mission, Doug attended Eastern Arizona College. He then moved to Provo, Utah where he lived for several years before returning to Arizona to be closer to family.
Doug will be missed for his sense of humor and love of children. He loved playing with his nieces and nephews, and was often found on the floor in a pile of kids laughing and tickling them. Doug will forever be an integral part of the Eight D’s and while we are not whole without him, we have sweet memories of the curly headed boy who made us laugh, and we know that he will always be with us. Son. Brother. Father. Friend. Disciple.
Doug unexpectedly passed away in Alpine, Arizona on October 10, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Leroy Cathcart, and his brother-in-law, Joseph Oliver Reed III. He is survived by his mother, Norma Cathcart, and by siblings: Dawney (Gene) Wolslagel, David (Kathy) Cathcart, Dennis (Carolyn) Cathcart, Danette (Tim) Matthews, Darla Reed, Dale (Sharron) Cathcart, and Diana (Evan) Thompson; along with 27 nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial fund has been established for those wishing to donate to help with Doug’s final expenses. If you would like to donate in lieu of flowers you can make the contribution at any Wells Fargo branch.
