HOOD, Edward L.


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, April 28, 2001 Edward L. Hood, of Flagstaff, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at the Flagstaff Medical Center. He was 87 years old. Mr. Hood was born on Oct. 19, 1913, in Garvin, Okla. He graduated from Clarkdale High School and came to Flagstaff to attend Arizona State Teachers College, now Northern Arizona University. In 1937, he entered the contracting business. He was a general contractor in northern Arizona until his retirement, building some of Flagstaff's business buildings and finer homes. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees during World War II. He was a former chairman of the Flagstaff Board of Adjustments for several years and was a member of the Flagstaff Masonic Lodge since 1946. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Meta (Page) Hood, daughters Marilyn (Robert) Gerkey of Tucson and Betty (Chuck) Upton, of Flagstaff; sister Ruby Jordan of Phoenix; sister-in-law Myrtle Thompson of Phoenix; brother-in-law Mancel Page of Grand Junction, Colo.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66. Interment will follow at the Flagstaff Citizens Cemetery.
