Lloyd George Sampson Sr., 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma, Neb.
Mr. Sampson was born in Delta, Utah, and joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1941. He earned the American Defense Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal while in the service.
After being honorably discharged, Mr. Sampson and his wife moved to Oxford, Neb. then Ely, Nev., where he worked in a copper mine. They moved to Henderson, Nev., in 1952, where Mr. Sampson worked in another copper mine, then Flagstaff in 1961, where he worked in highway construction.
The Sampsons moved to Mayer, Ariz. in 1966 and served in a church mission in Columbus, Ohio until April 1992, when they retired and moved to Orleans, Neb.
Mr. Sampson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Phillipsburg, Kan.
His survivors include his wife Virginia; daughter Sheryl Arnett of Mesa; sons Lloyd Sampson Jr. of Page, Ariz. and Gregory Sampson of Flagstaff; brothers Duane Sampson of Salt Lake City, Donald Sampson of Albuquerque, James Sampson of Delta, Utah and Kenneth Sampson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sisters Delma Burke of Tacoma, Wash, Geneal Bean of Koosharem, Utah, Donna Faye Prince of New Harmony, Utah and Helen Anderson of Oak City, Utah; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his mother Irene and father George Alma Sampson; his brother Gerald; a sister-in-law and a grandson.
Services are scheduled for Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Phillipsburg, Kan. Burial will be at the Orleans Cemetery in Nebraska. Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma, Neb. is handling arrangements.
